The Hebrew Scriptures are both sacred text for millions of people and a cornerstone foundation document for Western Civilization.  Those who read its contents for traditional religious purposes operate under very different assumptions than academic modern bible scholars.  This course will attempt to unpack the difficulties inherent in these radically different approaches to the same words.  Students should bring a bible to class (any translation will do, the more the merrier).
